If your dog has already been diagnosed with HD, then you probably wouldn't be able to claim as it is a pre existing condition. You should notify the breeder, just so they know, if the parents of your dog were scored & had low scores, then the breeders have done as much as they could be expected to do, but they should be notified so they are aware the parents have produced a dog with this fault. There should have been a certificate saying that there was no hip dysplasia in the last so many generations. If you got your dog from a back yard breeder, it is "buyer beware". I'm not sure it's the right thing, do they know why there is so much pain? Do we do surgery for injuries like this for them? or us? sorry I can't help answer the insurance question.
